Our Children, Our Future.

French

Intent

At Jenyns, we aim to instil a love of language learning within children, encouraging them to be language detectives, working to decode new vocabulary. We use the Language Angels scheme of learning to ensure our children are provided with a content-rich, varied and engaging French Curriculum which includes songs, games, and many opportunities to listen and repeat with emphasis on pronunciation practise.

Jenyns pupils will have:

The confidence to speak with good intonation and pronunciation.

Fluency in reading.

Fluency and imagination in writing.

A strong awareness of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.

A passion for languages and a commitment to the subject.

The ability to use language creatively and spontaneously.

An independence in their studies and the ability to draw upon a wide range of resources.

Implementation

Language Angels caters for the three pillars of learning ensuring substantial progress in the foreign language by the end of primary phase.

The three pillars of language being: • Phonics • Vocabulary • Grammar

Impact

The impact of this curriculum and scheme of work are monitored continuously through both formative and summative assessment. Guidance and exemplification materials are provided to teachers to support with this process.

The aim is for our pupils to leave our school equipped with a range of language-learning skills to enable them to go onto meet the end of KS2 requirements and study French or other languages as they enter KS3.
